Childbirth and age can both cause a lot of vaginal changes but modern cosmetic procedures such as vaginal rejuvenation have made it possible to tighten and rejuvenate your vagina.
Vaginal rejuvenation refers to a series of procedures that will improve the function and appearance of your vagina. Procedures include clitoral hood reduction, vaginal tightening, labiaplasty, vaginal tissue correction and hymenoplasty.
A number of vaginal procedures are major but procedures that use radiofrequency and laser are considered minor.
What to expect during a vaginal rejuvenation treatment
During your vaginal rejuvenation treatment, laser or radiofrequency technology will be used to shrink or plump up the labia majora or minora and the vagina and bladder area will be tightened and rejuvenated.
These procedures are relatively fast and have few very side effects or risks, which is they’re such a popular choice amongst women of various ages.

What is considered a major procedure?
Any procedure that requires a surgeon to cut beneath the skin is major. This includes procedures such as clitoral hood reduction, labiaplasty and hymenoplasty.
What is considered a minor procedure?
A minor procedure is the exact opposite of a major one and doesn’t require any cutting beneath the skin. However, it can involve the piercing of the skin. For example, some laser treatments that are used on the inside of the vagina or to remove moles will pierce the skin to some extent.
Is there an age restriction for this procedure?
While there is no age limit for this procedure, there are a few guidelines that medical professionals adhere to, to keep your best interests at heart. The best approach is to consult with a doctor so that your specific needs and concerns can be discussed before a decision is made.
It’s important to understand that some vaginal rejuvenation procedures will permanently alter your appearance, which is why extra care is taken when dealing with younger patients. A reputable cosmetic surgeon will always take you through all of your options and will never talk you into getting a procedure that you don’t need.
In 2016, the Medical Board of Australia put a law in place that states that any patients under the age of 18 who wish to undergo a major procedure need to be evaluated by a registered medical professional and abide by a 3-month cooling-off period before going ahead with a major procedure.
For a minor vaginal rejuvenation procedure, a 7-day cooling off period is required for patients who are under the age of 18. They will also still need to be cleared by a medical professional such as a psychologist.
